I have learned that as a mom, time is incredibly valuable. Before becoming a mom, it seemed like the days would just drag on and on. Now, I swear the days begin and end within 5 hours. Doing my makeup is something I have always enjoyed doing, especially when I have somewhere to go. Creating this makeup essentials list is crucial for us busy women. If you want to look and feel your best but want to keep it simple- keep reading, because it’s time to spill some tea.
The older I get, my makeup drawer gets filled with more and more items, yet I always catch myself going for the same products. I do like to switch up my routine here and there. I honestly though have nailed down the most glowy, natural makeup look.
Similar to skincare, makeup doesn’t always have to be about the name brands. I mean yes, if I could I would definitely own anything and everything from Dior or Charlotte Tilbury. Many times, it more so matters in the type of product, technique and order- which again is very similar to skincare.
I hope this makeup essentials list is able to bring in some new ideas for you. I hope this allows you to actually do your makeup when you are short on time. My goal of this list is to concisely tell you exactly what you need for a glowing and natural look, when you have little time.
This post is all about the makeup essentials list all the busy moms who want to achieve a simple, natural look.
Makeup Essentials List
basic makeup list for natural look
Maybe you have to head to the grocery store. Or maybe you have a lunch date with some girlfriends. This makeup essentials list is going to be all for the girlies who want to look cute but keep it on the more simple side.
I first like to begin all my makeup routines with primer. Primer does an amazing job at allowing your face makeup to be applied evenly throughout. Recently, my favorite has been the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. This product does an amazing job at blending and evenly distributing your foundation.
After using primer, I like to go in with concealer. Recently, I have been loving the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I go in with my makeup sponge (I love this one from Ulta!). First, I make sure to wet the sponge, squeeze it out and then blend the concealer. I have found that wetting the sponge allows the product to blend so much better on your skin for a dewy look. I especially use this technique during the winter time, when my skin isn’t as hydrated.
Since we are doing a simple makeup routine, I really like to skip the heavy foundation. I tend to go for either a light coverage or honestly just a tinted moisturizer. If you are looking for a product more on a budget, I have always loved the Burt’s Bees Goodness Glows Tinted Moisturizer. If you are willing to spend a little more, I would 10/10 recommend the Tarte Maracuja Vegan Tinted Moisturizer. Both are perfect options if you are looking for a low coverage yet elegant look.
Honestly, I would love to say I was gifted with long, luscious eye lashes- but that’s definitely not the case for me. If you get extensions or were wonderfully gifted in the lash department then skip this part. If you have barely existent lashes, then keep reading.
Next, an eyelash curler and mascara are up next for our makeup essentials list. My favorite mascara as of recently is the Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Washable Mascara. Since I have lighter skin and green eyes, I prefer going with a black brown color. It appears less harsh on me personally.
After the eyes, I add a tint to my eyebrows. My tried and true is the Anastasia DIPBROW Pomade. I will probably never use anything else for my brows because I truly love this product so much. It also may seem crazy to spend over $20 on a little product like this, but seriously a little goes a long way. I have barely made a dent in mine, and I have had it for a year now.
To create a subtle dimension for our face, I like to add a little blush to the cheekbones. Currently my favorite is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Powder Blush in the color captivating. They call this a 12 hour wear, and I totally agree with it. The little pop of color is perfect for a simple look!

For my lips, I typically like to keep it simple. As for gloss, I have been incredibly in love with the Laneige Sleep Mask (this can be worn any time, not just at bedtime). For a little added color, I add my Buxom Plumping Gloss.
Finally, last step is here! To set our makeup, I have been loving the Mac Prep + Prime Fix Spray. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, I would suggest the NYX Dewy Makeup Setting Spray. The NYX one is honestly one of the best setting sprays I have ever used. It really brings your makeup all together and is best for a glow, long lasting look.
basic makeup tools for beginners
In order to get the flawless look we are going for, makeup tools actually do matter. You can have the most high end makeup, but if you choose the wrong tools to apply- you’ve done yourself so dirty. So YES, the tools do matter. It can be a huge investment, but for many of these products it is worth the price. And lucky for us, there are many dupes for some of the more expensive products that do the same job!
I already talked about how much I love my makeup sponge from Real Techniques. Yes, beauty blenders have been all the rage for many years. It’s not that they don’t do an amazing job, because they do! But this is definitely an area where you can save your $$ and buy the dupe version.
When it comes to applying my foundation, I am 100% in love with my IT Airbrush Blurring Foundation Brush (#101). I have attempted to buy and try more affordable foundation brushes before, and I have yet to find the one I love. They all work decent. Honestly, foundation can really make or break your whole look. There is zero point in buying a $45 bottle of foundation if you are going to use a cheap brush. It ruins the look and defeats the whole purpose. So I would say, when it comes to a foundation brush, it’s worth the splurge.
When it comes to blush, I have tried around with both affordable and more expensive brushes. From what I have noticed, as long as you have a blush you like- the look turns out good either way. Applying blush isn’t a complex, difficult process. So as long as you lightly add to the apple of your cheeks, most affordable brushes should be just fine. Below I will have the link for the brush I am loving currently!
Because I have the shortest, skimpiest eyelashes, it is NECESSARY that I curl my eyelashes. Some girls heat up their curler with a lighter, I skip that part. I haven’t noticed a major difference or long lasting hold with that part, so it isn’t worth it for me. Also, keeping a lighter in my bathroom is just another object for my toddler to get into. With the eyelash curler, just like the blush brush, I have noticed any works just fine. So if you choose, I would definitely save your money here and go for a cheaper one!

For a basic look, I use one last tool. If you are using the Anastasia Pomade I talked about above, then it is 100% necessary to buy their Brush. The Anastasia 12 Dual-Ended Firm Angled Brow Brush will help you get the most beautiful brow look. I first use the actual brush part to straighten my brows, and then dip the angled brush into the pomade and apply.
There you go girls! There is your makeup essentials list for all you hot, busy moms. I hope you try out this simple, natural makeup look and feel your best in it! This is seriously my GO TO LOOK, for almost any low key occasion. I hope you love it and have a great week! xxx
